Commemorates on:6 of May
Thomas the Apostle was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. He was born on Galileia, in the city of Pansada. He was a fisherman, but soon left his home to follow Jesus and listen to his teachings. Thomas did not believe the reports about the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, which gave him the name “Doubting Thomas” in Greek “Απιστος Θωμάς”. On the eight day after Jesus’ Resurrection, Jesus Christ appeared to Thomas and showed him his wounds and the Apostle cried out “My Lord and my God” (John 20:28). Thomas is known for the founding many Christian Churches in Ethiopia, Palestine and Mesopotamia and for preaching the Gospel till his death. His feast day is celebrated by the Orthodox Church on May 6 as well as on October 6 and the Sunday after Easter.
